Why Strong Word Choice Matters
Good night Growing Writers, I hope you had an amazing day! Since today is Tip Tuesday, I would love to share with you some tips on why choosing strong words matter.
Teaching Tip:
Encourage students to choose words that show, not just tell.Strong word choice helps writing come alive and allows readers to experience what the writer is describing.
Why it Matters:
Precise words create clearer images for the reader.
Strong vocabulary helps set the tone and mood of a piece.
Choosing the right word builds students’ confidence as writers.
It teaches students to think critically about language and meaning.
Here is an idea for the classroom
Try a “Word Swap” activity, this is where you have students replace general words (like good or nice) with more vivid, specific choices (like brilliant or breathtaking).Discuss how each change affects the mood and imagery.
