The Power Of Editing

This week, I took a short story I wrote with my students and focused on the editing process. First, I reread the draft aloud to catch awkward sentences and unclear ideas. Then, I asked a student for feedback, she pointed out that my ending felt rushed and that I repeated certain phrases as if it was a repetition poem. After revising, the story flowed much more smoothly and the characters emotions came through more clearly.

Editing helps us see our writing through fresh eyes. Small changes like replacing weak verbs or cutting extra words can make a big difference. It also means that mistakes are not bad they are part of the learning process.

Treat editing like a treasure hunt, each change you make is a hidden gem that makes your story shine brighter.
