Persuasive Piece

Good night Growing Writers, I hope you had a wonderful weekend. This Sunday evening I would love to share with you a piece I wrote in class about myself .

Please Let Me Be Me Daddy

Dear Daddy,

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to see yourself and love what you see? That is how I feel when I wear my natural curls. I know you have suggested straightening my hair because you think it would be easier. Daddy, I truly respect that you are trying to help. However, I am asking you to please listen to my heart; my curls are not a problem to fix. They are part of who I am, and I need you to let me keep them.

Straightening my hair might seem like a small change, but it comes with real consequences. The heat used in the process can seriously damage my hair, making it weak, dry, and even causing it to fall out. I have worked hard to keep my curls healthy. I do not want to ruin them just to chase an idea of neat that does not include the beauty of natural Black hair.

Next, maintaining straightened hair is not easy; it actually takes more work in the long run. It requires constant heat, frequent styling, and expensive products to keep it looking smooth. My natural curls, on the other hand, are easier to manage once I care for them properly. They show my personality and allow me to express myself freely without pretending to be someone I am not.

Daddy, I know you only want the best for me, and I appreciate your concern. I just want you to see that what’s best for me is embracing who I truly am, curls and all. When I wear my hair naturally, I feel proud, confident, and beautiful. Please let me continue to wear my curls the way they are, because they are part of my identity and heritage.

Your daughter,

Tiana
