Writers' Workshop Wednesday

Welcome to Writers’ Workshop Wednesday! Today, we focused on helping our new learners become confident editors of their own work. After they wrote their first draft about “My Amazing Weekend,” we worked together to make their writing even better.

I shared a few editing tips that made a big difference:

  1. Read your work aloud – It helps you hear if something doesn’t sound right.

  2. Check spelling and punctuation – Little mistakes can change meaning.

  3. Use the “COPS” strategy – Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, and Spelling!

  4. Add more details – Make your story come alive by describing feelings and actions.

As we edited together, students noticed where they could add missing words, fix spelling, and use better describing words. It was amazing to see their excitement when their writing started to shine!

✍️ Tip for teachers: Encourage students to see editing as a way to improve their stories, not to point out what’s “wrong.” Celebrate their effort and growth as writers!
